Thames Academy is a post-grad (PG) or pre-college transitional experience. It is a year of academic preparation that students take between the end of their secondary school/high school education and the start of their college studies. Unlike traditional post-grad programs at independent or prep schools, Thames Academy at Mitchell College provides college level courses for credit. Located on Mitchell College campus, the Academy provides a supportive residential program within a collegiate environment and co-curricular interaction with two-year and four-year students. Students who embark upon this distinctive transitional year will have already obtained their high school diploma and are college age.
Mitchell College has long been known as a college where students learn to succeed. The College’s number one strength has always been, and continues to be, our ability to provide a transforming educational experience in a caring and supportive environment. The core of this philosophy is based in the College’s renowned academic support programs, in particular, our nationally recognized Bentsen Learning Center for students with documented learning disabilities and/or AD/HD. This reputation for outstanding academic support was established when Mitchell was the New England leader as a two-year college with a strong reputation in assisting students in transferring on to the nation’s top colleges and universities. It remains true today in our role as a four-year college offering competitive and distinctive bachelor degree programs. It is only natural that we now reach out and expand our ‘support network.’
